Comments/Requests for information I am researching the history of the creation, from 1818, of a large country estate on Exmoor in Somerset by John Knight, ironmaster, of Wolverley, Worcestershire. Mr Knight's Land Surveyor, was a "Mr Bright". I suspect this might be John Bright (1781 - 1844) who was later Lord Hatherton's Steward at Teddesley (mentioned in Lord Hatherton's diary on 6/2/1840). I wonder if you can point me to anything that might help me confirm (or otherwise) this connection? Thanking you in anticipation. Graham Wills

Comments/Requests for information Joanna. No photos, I'm afraid but many years ago I tried to work out why the Cliffe bakers disappeared from the Penkridge trade directories between 1851 and 1884, then reappeared again. I probably don't know any more then you do but if you email me at maddocks one seven three (as numbers)at aol.com I will send you my notes.

Comments/Requests for information Hello Bob I was interested in the Penkridge Mystery of William Harding House and I thought I might try some of my family history research skills to identify any relevant Hardings around 1673. The Hardings have a significant number of entries in the Baswich Church Registers including Aaron Harding baptised 8th May 1649. John Harding son of Aaron was baptised at St Michaels 20th April 1676. Mary the wife of Aaron Harding was buried at St Michaels 6th March 1677. The A.H in the plaque could be his and the M represent Mary. Aaron Harding married Francis Emery at St Michaels 25th Sept 1678 which was probably second marriage as a widower. He was buried at St Michaels 25th Sept 1686. Other Harding records at St Michaels from 1653 (earliest available) to the end of 1699 are burials of Elizabeth 2nd April 1657 and and Mary 7th Oct 1699. I have no idea about the "O"s or the B C unless it has some connection with Baswich for him and somewhere like like Colwich for Mary. Thanks for the great books and the work of the Local History Group

Would you be interested in coming to Pencric to do a talk for us? I’m not sure if you do these regularly and how you work them. If you would be willing to discuss this with me, please contact me by email or either on my mobile 07515439953 or our office number is 01785 711720. Thank you in advance for your response. Comments/Requests for information Hi, My family are mainly from Penkridge Rea. circa late 1800-1940. I was born at Whiston in the house that I believe was also Chapel. We moved into the village shortly after my birth. My father Thomas worked at the mill on cannock Rd. and we lived in the then mill cottage movine later to #7 Bellbrook. My father was also Asst. scoutmaster 1st Penkridge troop. A Mr Phillips was the scountmaster. I can just remember the camping trips to Fairbourne, in Wales. Lso I was the mascot of the troop and my Grandma Caine made my scout uniform as i was only 4yrs old at the time. Also remember marching beside Mr phillips on the church parades. On my mothers side the Hewitts her Charles had I believe something to do with the gasworks. She in her early years worked at the Littleton hotel in the early 1900's. I have one surviving aunt living in Penkridge Mrs P Hewitt who resides at the seniors residence off Mill St. I was wonering if their is place that I can get further info on my family history. Comments/Requests for information First of all I'd like a copy of "Grit", being a descendent of the Croydons who lived in Penkridge from about 1770 to 1945. The Churchyard has about eight tombs, full of my ancestors, and a couple of windows and a prayer-desk in memoriam. Rock House was built in 1815 by my GGGUncle Richard. I can probably supply quite a bit of interesting family details for your records. I am interested particularly in anything about John Croydon (1803-81), the miller. And the mill itself ! Please e.mail me with details as to how to buy the book and I will try and provide something of interest for your guest-book.

Comments/Requests for information I am currently doing some research for a friend of mine - I do it as a hobby - and have found a link to the Littleton family. My friend is the great niece of Hester Edithe Hoskins, who married the 4th Baronet Hatherton. Edward Charles Rowley Littleton on July 14th 1897. I have obtained their marriage date from various sites specialising in aristocratic lines; but I have not been able to find the marriage in any Marriage Index at the PRO. I have found that Edward was serving as a military attache in Sarawak in 1896, which offers the possibility that they were married in the East. Hester was an Australian. I've also found the information in them helpful in my family history research. My grandfather Wilfrid Ingram, Master Mason, lived at Quarry Heath, his father was Frederick Ingram, Master Mason. My mother, Freda, and her siblings were all born there. On my father's side of the family his mother was Mary E. Lyons, daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth Lyons.
